Actually Holds
Styling that holds from morning through dinner
The hardest thing about event styling isn't the style itself — it's the hold. A beautiful updo that falls apart three hours into a wedding reception isn't a beautiful updo. Twenty-five years of styling has taught me that hold comes from prep work, the right technique, and products matched to your specific hair type — not from drowning a style in hairspray and hoping.
What I style most often: regular blowouts that make a haircut look its best, formal event styling for graduations and reunions, wedding day hair (bride and bridal parties), updos and braid styling for prom and homecoming, and special-request styling for photos. Every appointment starts with a conversation about your event — how long you need the hair to hold, what you'll be doing, and how you want to feel when you see yourself in the photos afterward.
Styling service starting prices
Final price depends on hair length, density, and style complexity. The free consultation gives an exact quote before booking.
Wash, dry, and styled finish. The "look like you just left the salon" service for any day that matters.
Pinned, twisted, or braided up styles. The everyday formal — for work events, dinners, or casual weddings.
Prom, graduation, family reunions, formal photos. Includes a trial style for events 4+ weeks out.
Bride or bridal party member. Includes a pre-wedding trial style and day-of touch-up. Book 6+ months ahead.
Bridal parties of 3+ get a per-person discount when booked together. Cash, card, or Venmo accepted.
For weddings, proms, and major events, I strongly recommend a trial style 4-6 weeks before the event. This gives us a chance to see what your hair actually does on the day, photograph the result, and adjust before the appointment that has to be perfect. The trial style is included in the wedding day price; for other events it's available as a separate appointment at a reduced rate.

How a styling appointment works
Styling is the service where preparation matters most. A 60-minute styling appointment with five minutes of consultation almost always disappoints; a 75-minute appointment with 15 minutes of consultation almost always succeeds. Here's exactly what happens.
-
Free consultation (10-15 minutes)
Tell me about your event — what it is, how long the hair needs to hold, what you'll be doing (dancing? Photos? Both?), and what feeling you want when you look in the mirror. Bring inspiration photos if you have them. This is when the style decision happens.
-
Hair preparation
The right prep determines whether the style lasts three hours or twelve. Wash if needed, then prep with hold-supporting products specific to your hair type. Fine hair needs different prep than thick hair; curly hair gets a completely different approach.
-
The style
Blowout takes 30-45 minutes. Updos take 45-75 minutes. Wedding-day styling is 60-90 minutes plus a touch-up. Braid styling varies by braid type. Every style is built section by section, with deliberate technique chosen for your hair.
-
Setting and finishing
The finishing step is the hold step — light hairspray, strategic pins, and a final shape check. I won't release you from the chair until you've moved your head, looked at the back with a hand mirror, and confirmed the style is yours.
-
Touch-up kit and instructions
You leave with a small touch-up kit (extra pins, a travel hairspray) and clear instructions for fixing anything that shifts during the event. For weddings, I'm available by phone for emergency questions on the day.

Styling FAQs
Call or text (435) 580-9160, or email girlshairstyles2012@gmail.com. Regular blowouts and styling book one to two weeks ahead. Wedding day styling books six months ahead, prom and graduation book six to eight weeks ahead. Same-day appointments are sometimes available — call to check. The salon is by appointment only with no walk-ins.
A blowout takes 30 to 45 minutes. An updo takes 45 to 75 minutes. Formal event styling with a consultation runs 60 to 90 minutes. Wedding day styling is 60 to 90 minutes plus a touch-up before the ceremony. Braid styling varies by braid — single Dutch braid takes 15 minutes, full bridal braid styling can run 45 minutes.
Yes — bridal parties of 3 or more get a per-person discount when booked together. For larger parties (5+), the wedding-day appointment usually starts early in the morning to ensure everyone is finished in time. I recommend booking 6+ months ahead for weddings, and scheduling a trial style for the bride 4-6 weeks before the wedding. Trial styles are included in the wedding day price.
For most styling, day-old hair (not freshly washed) holds better than clean hair. Specifically, hair washed 24 hours before the appointment has a small amount of natural oil that helps the style grip. I'll wash and prep at the appointment as needed. For weddings and major events, follow the specific instructions I give you at the trial — every bride's hair behaves differently and I'll tailor the prep advice.
A properly prepped and styled blowout lasts 3 to 5 days with normal wear. Updos and event styling hold all day and through normal activity — including dancing, photos, hugs, and dinner. Wedding styling specifically is built for all-day hold from morning ceremony through reception. The touch-up kit you leave with covers any minor settling that happens during long events.
Yes — absolutely bring photos. The consultation is also when I'll tell you honestly which parts of the photo will translate to your hair and which won't. Hair type, density, length, and face shape all change what's possible. I'll suggest adjustments that get you 90% of the photo's feel while working with your actual hair.
Yes, this is a big part of what I do every spring. Prom and homecoming styling books fast — usually six to eight weeks before the event. I recommend booking as soon as you know the date. Most prom appointments are styling only (no haircut), but if you're combining a fresh cut with styling, book those together at the same appointment.
Cash, all major credit and debit cards, and Venmo. For wedding parties, a deposit holds the date (typically half of the total), with the balance due on the wedding day. Tipping is appreciated but never expected.
