Color that respects the hair you actually have

Most color consultations I do start with the same conversation: a client showing me a photo of someone in their 30s, asking for the color in the photo. The honest answer is almost always — that color won't look the same on you, but a version that flatters you will. Twenty-five years of doing color has taught me that the color in the photo never accounts for the hair texture, density, skin tone, or natural underlying pigment of the person sitting in my chair.

What I specialize in: root touch-ups for women who've had the same color forever and want it maintained beautifully, full color refresh for hair that's grown dull or brassy, dimensional highlights and lowlights, and gentle color correction when something has gone wrong somewhere else. Mature hair especially benefits from a colorist who understands what happens when natural pigment fades — the products that worked at 30 don't work at 60, and neither do the color choices.

Color service starting prices

Final price depends on hair length, density, and color complexity. The free consultation gives you an exact quote before any color is mixed.

Root Touch-Up
from $65

Maintaining an established color. Recommended every 4-6 weeks for full coverage of regrowth.

Full Color
from $85

Full head color — single process, dimensional refresh, or refresh-and-tone. Hair length and density determine final price.

Highlights / Lowlights
from $120

Dimensional color, partial or full foils, balayage. Includes toner and gloss finish.

Color Correction
by quote

Fixing color gone wrong elsewhere. Varies enormously by starting condition — the free consultation gives the exact number.

Color services include a haircut at a reduced rate when booked together. Cash, card, or Venmo accepted.

Why color requires a consultation

Color is the one service I never quote without seeing the hair in person. Hair condition, porosity, natural underlying pigment, and previous color buildup all change what's possible — and what something will actually cost. The 15-minute consultation is free, builds the trust to get the formula right, and protects you from surprises on appointment day.

Is RaDona's color right for you?

✓ A great fit if you:

  • Want a stylist who'll consult on the color before mixing anything
  • Are looking for root touch-up maintenance on an established color
  • Want dimensional highlights or balayage that ages well
  • Are over 50 and your old color routine has stopped looking right
  • Need gray coverage that looks natural, not flat or muddy
  • Want subtle warmth, golden tones, or natural brunette refresh
  • Have had color go wrong elsewhere and need it corrected

✗ Not the best fit if you:

  • Want vivid fashion colors (pink, blue, purple, green)
  • Want platinum or fully bleached blonde transformations
  • Want extensions or weft installations
  • Want same-day appointments — color requires 1-2 weeks advance booking
  • Aren't willing to do a free consultation before the appointment
  • Are looking for the cheapest color service — my pricing reflects 25 years of color experience

How a color appointment works

Color is a multi-step process even when the appointment looks simple from the outside. Here's exactly what happens from your first call to walking out with the finished result.

  1. Free consultation (15 minutes)

Sit in the chair, fully clothed, no color mixed yet. We'll look at your hair condition, talk through what you have, what you want, and what's realistic. I'll show you tone samples and explain exactly what each option will produce on your specific hair.

  2. Strand test if needed

For first-time clients or major color changes, I sometimes do a small strand test in advance — especially if there's previous color buildup or unusual porosity. This prevents surprises on appointment day.

  3. Formula mixing (custom to your hair)

Color formulas are mixed for the specific hair sitting in my chair — never a one-size-fits-all bottle. The mix accounts for natural underlying pigment, current condition, and the exact tone you and I agreed on at the consultation.

  4. Application and processing

Application time varies by service — root touch-up is 45 minutes, full color is 60-90 minutes, highlights and balayage are 2-3 hours total. Bring something to read; the chair time is real but the result lasts much longer because of it.

  5. Rinse, tone, and gloss finish

Every color service ends with a toner and gloss to seal the result. This is the step that determines how long the color holds — and the difference between salon color that lasts 10+ weeks and color that fades in three.

  6. Home maintenance teaching

Before you leave, I'll teach you the home routine that maintains the color: sulfate-free shampoo, cold water rinses, and the right between-visit refreshers. Most clients save 30-50% on color longevity just by changing their wash routine.

Color FAQs

How do I book a color appointment?

Call or text (435) 580-9160, or email girlshairstyles2012@gmail.com. All color appointments require a free consultation first — sometimes done right before the service, sometimes scheduled as its own visit if I need to assess hair condition before mixing formula. Color appointments book one to two weeks in advance typically. The salon is by appointment only with no walk-ins.

Why is a free consultation required for color?

Color is the one service I never quote without seeing the hair in person. Hair porosity, previous color buildup, natural underlying pigment, and current condition all change what's possible — and what something will cost. The consultation takes 15 minutes, is completely free, and protects you from surprises on appointment day. It's the single biggest reason my color clients come back.

How long does a color appointment take?

Root touch-up runs about 90 minutes total. Full color is 2 to 2.5 hours. Highlights, balayage, and dimensional color is 3 to 4 hours. Color correction varies widely depending on starting condition. The free consultation gives you an exact time estimate before booking.

How long does the color last between appointments?

A well-applied salon color with proper home maintenance lasts 8 to 12 weeks before significant fading. Root touch-up is typically every 4 to 6 weeks for full coverage of regrowth. Highlights and balayage stretch longer — 12 to 16 weeks because the grow-out is built in. The home routine matters enormously: sulfate-free shampoo, cold rinses, and skipping daily washing add weeks to color longevity.

Do you do vivid colors like pink, purple, or platinum blonde?

No. I specialize in natural and dimensional color — root touch-up, balayage, gray coverage, gentle warm tones, and refresh services for mature hair. Vivid fashion colors and full platinum transformations are different specialties that need different tools and experience. If you want those services, I'm happy to recommend Salt Lake area colorists who specialize in them.

Will color damage my hair?

Modern professional color is gentler than at-home box dye and dramatically gentler than older salon color from 20 years ago. That said, every color service does some processing of the hair — and that's why I recommend a bond-builder or gloss treatment with every color appointment, and pair color with a home routine that includes weekly conditioning. Color clients who follow the home routine I teach see almost no condition decline over years.

Can you fix color that went wrong somewhere else?

Yes. Color correction is one of my most-requested services and varies enormously by what's starting on the hair. The consultation is essential — I need to see exactly what's there before quoting time or price. Some corrections happen in one appointment; others need 2-3 visits over several weeks to do safely. Quick fixes that promise overnight correction usually cause more damage; honest color correction takes time.

Do you take walk-ins for color?

No. Color services especially require the consultation and formula mixing — neither of which can be done as a walk-in. The salon is appointment-only. Same-day appointments are sometimes available for established clients — call or text (435) 580-9160 to check.
